The Veg Life

If you are new to this blog, the first thing I should tell you is that my life is guided by two very important loves – animals and plants.  For as long as I can remember, I have felt a deep connection with animals.  I held secret conversations with the neighborhood cats when I was growing up.  My heart was broken by the loss of my first horse-friend, a soulful Quarter Horse named Orion.  And today when people pull out photos of their kids, I meet each one of their photos with one of my fur-babies without shame.

But it was my love of plants that made going vegetarian such an easy transition.  Why would I want to eat chicken when I could happily fill my plate with broccoli?  Some people may have fond, childhood memories of ice cream sundaes and funnel cake, but my favorite memory is when my grandmother first introduced me to asparagus.  That night I devoured an entire plate of those tender, roasted spears and never looked back.   I knew I was definitely meant to be an herbivore.

I was vegetarian for about 8 years before I realized that I was still harming animals when I consumed eggs and dairy. So I finally went vegan, and I can honestly say that my only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner.

This part of the blog will be dedicated to sharing my experiences with the vegan lifestyle beyond recipes and restaurants.  The more I became educated on animal entertainment businesses, cosmetic and drug testing, and the fashion industry, the more I have found that my values extend beyond what is on my plate.  I’m excited to spotlight some vegan business, review vegan products, and maybe share a few things I have learned on this journey.
